AI is here to stay. How does it affect photography?

AI and photography
The other day I had someone ask me about my thoughts on photography and AI. They asked if I was worried about AI as a photographer. I had thought about it a little, but this was the first time someone asked me outright. The answer came to me easily though.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already in our lives. Every time you go on Netflix, AI has carefully selected which shows they think you will like and presents them to you. When you listen to Spotify, it uses AI to choose the songs it thinks you'll enjoy. AI is here for good.

Can you use AI to create images? Yep! Go on Facebook and it will offer you an AI option. If you know how to use Photoshop, you can create a photo from nothing, just offering words to generate the image. And it can be the most outlandish image you can think of! And AI will only get better and better at creating real life images.

I use it often in editing to replace something I don't want in the frame, most often my husband holding onto the light stand. As wonderful of an assistant as he is, I must remove him from the photos. Usually, AI does an amazing job of replacing him in the photos. What used to take me a long time to do, now only takes a minute or two. Sometimes it takes several tries to get it just right and sometimes I have to fix it by hand. But most of the time, it is a lifesaver.

So why aren’t I afraid I’ll be obsolete as a photographer if AI can do all of this? Let me tell you my top 3 reasons why:
1. A portrait session with Maria Marchal Photography is an experience. I come to your house and help you choose what to wear. We discuss places that are special to you or maybe I’ll show you a place you haven’t seen in Louisville, Kentucky, before to have your session. The day of, you get to have your hair and makeup done. All of this attention adds to the experience of the photo session.
2. AI can’t capture emotion. Sure, AI can create a happy face or a sad face or someone laughing. But we know true emotion when we see it. It’s in your eyes. You want the sparkle in your eyes to be real, not just AI generated. You want that laugh to be genuine and genuinely you.
3. Lastly, AI can’t capture a moment or a memory. When looking through photos, so much of what we say is, “Remember when we…” or “Can you believe we wore that?!” Photos are taken with the people we love and they are a snapshot in time. We want to relive that moment, from a wedding to a graduation to a day at the beach. We want that moment to live on forever, which is why we take photos in the first place. AI will never be able to replace that.

Photos capture us just as we are. That is our true self. Now, we can dress that up, but it’s still us. Let’s not forget how important these memories are to us and to those we love.

**Rediscovering Your Confidence: The Invisible Struggles of Women Over 40** As a photographer, I’ve seen a common thread among many women in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond—they often feel invisible. In a society that tends to focus on youth, it’s easy to feel like the beauty, strength, and wisdom that come with age go unnoticed. But here’s the truth: *You are seen.* Many women I work with come to me feeling overlooked, as though the world no longer recognizes their value. But by the end of our session, they leave feeling empowered, confident, and celebrated. Every wrinkle, every line, and every experience has shaped them into someone truly extraordinary—and that’s what I capture. A portrait session isn’t just about looking beautiful in front of the camera; it’s about reclaiming your visibility and celebrating your journey. The confidence, wisdom, and grace that come with age are powerful, and they deserve to be recognized. If you’re a woman in your 40s, 50s, 60s, or beyond and have ever felt invisible, it’s time to change that. Let’s create a portrait that shows the world exactly who you are—strong, beautiful, and irreplaceable. #FabulousOver40 #WomenOver40 #WomenOver50 #WomenOver60 #TimelessBeauty #ReclaimYourConfidence #CelebrateYourAge #YouAreSeen #EmpoweredWomen

When you schedule a branding session or a senior session with Maria Marchal Photography , I will come to your house and help you choose what to wear in your photos. Why? Because sometimes what looks good in person, doesn't photograph well. I have the experience and expertise to tell you what will look good in front of the camera. Suggestions for what to wear for portraits go back years and years! In fact, the famous painter John Singer Sargent would style his clients and often alter what they had on when they showed up for their sitting. He knew what would look good in a painting and how to style it to look fabulous while still making the person the most important part of the painting. Now, I'm no John Singer Sargent, but I do like to offer items I have for clients to sometimes wear during the shoot. I just knew this fringy jacket would look great with the outfit this senior brought. She wasn't sure about it at first, but fell in love with it after seeing what it looked like in the photo. In fact, these were some of her favorite photos! I enjoy helping my Louisville clients from the beginning of the process all the way through to the end. Not only will I help you decide what to wear for your session, I will help you choose the best photos and how to display them. Heck, I even install the wall art for you! Actually, my husband does that, but he's part of the business. Let's see what wonderful images we can create together here in Louisville, Ky. Whether it's headshots , branding photos or senior pictures , I'll hold your hand from beginning to end.
